Description
Kimekomi Doll is a traditional Japanese doll. It was established in the middle of 18th century at Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto. The legend said that the carving artist of Kamigamo Shrine, Takahashi Tadashige, made a doll with the Kimono fabrics. This was the origin of Kimekomi dolls. He made many dolls from mill ends from his works at the shrine. The body of this doll is made from paulownia sawdust. Circa approx. 1970-1980's, it depicts a pair of girl sister.
The handcraft of kimekomi dolls is a Japanese traditional handcraft in which you put fabrics on wooden bodies which are made from paulownia sawdust or urethane bodies. Their Faces are made Of 100% Wood Kyo-Gofun (Crushed Oyster Powder Mixed With Glue).
In order to make a kimekomi doll, first, bodies are cleaned with files, then fabrics are tucked into grooves of bodies with a two-knife spatula.
