    usha Ningyo
    Gofun Face and Hands
    10 7/8 inches or 27.9 centimeters tall.
    Without its base the doll is approximately 10 7/8 inches or 27.9 centimeters tall, 3 inches deep by 7 ½ inches wide.  The base is 7 ¾ inches wide by 5 ½ inches deep by1 ½ inches high.
    I purchased it over thirty-five years ago from a private Asian Art collector in California.  I don’t know when it was made or who made it.  It may have been made prior to 1900.  It has glass eyes, gofun hands and face.  Its face has an intense scowl and would certainly scare away any demons.  I replaced the wooden base or stand when the old wooden base split from age.  It may have real human hair or animal hair.  It carries a metal sword.  The kabuto or helmet is shaped to form cow horns.
    His costume and shoes are embroidered silk and are elaborately detailed.
    There is a wooden sword case attached to its back.  The gofun on both hands is cracked and the paint on its face is chipped.
